About Catherine Erb
Catherine Erb was born and raised in Memphis TN. Her interest in photography began in the 80s when she was given access to a camera and dark room at boarding school. After high school, Catherine lived in Europe and worked with photographers for several years. Upon returning home to Memphis, Catherine continued to expand her artistic practice- making her own pigment prints and attempting new printing techniques.
Her camera, always at her hip, is Catherine’s way of visually journaling. Her work is her exploration and study of the world.
In her own words:
“There is a little break in time after something comes into my viewfinder, but before I have had a chance to react or form a judgement. To me, this is a precious fleeting instant that I seek to capture and prolong; my constant objective is to be present enough to capture it. My hope is that my work holds the space for its viewer to dwell in this moment.
When I am successful, the result is not just an image, but a reminder that the magic always happens in the present.”
Today, you can find Catherine’s work at galleries in Memphis, Nashville, Austin, Atlanta, and Charlotte, Charleston, and Washington, CT.
